Why We Bought Our Swift Kon-Tiki 794
When people ask us why we bought our Swift Kon-Tiki 794, the answer is simple – we fell in love with it.
But the journey actually started with a very different motorhome.
Our First Motorhome
Before Ruby, we owned an Ace Napoli, which was our first experience of motorhome life. At the time, I wasn’t convinced I’d even enjoy it. I was definitely more of a hotel person, and camping or motorhoming wasn’t something I ever imagined would become such a big part of our lives.
Lee wanted to make sure I enjoyed the lifestyle before we invested in a larger motorhome, so we bought the Ace Napoli and took it away on our honeymoon.
To our surprise… I absolutely loved it.
That one trip completely changed the way I looked at travelling.
Looking for Our Dream Motorhome
Once we’d decided that motorhome life was definitely for us, we started looking for something bigger and more comfortable for longer adventures.
Originally, we’d actually ordered a different Swift Kon-Tiki.
It had a rear lounge layout with a drop-down bed and, at the time, we thought it was exactly what we wanted. Unfortunately, this was just after Covid, and motorhome demand had gone through the roof. Delivery times kept getting pushed back, and after waiting around a year, we were told our motorhome probably hadn’t even been built yet.
That’s when we decided to start looking elsewhere.
Then We Found Ruby
We spotted another Swift Kon-Tiki for sale and thought we’d go and have a look.
The plan wasn’t necessarily to buy it. We simply wanted to make sure we were choosing the right layout before committing to such a big purchase.
As soon as we stepped inside…
…we knew.
This motorhome had everything we’d been looking for.
The spacious lounge, the fixed island bed, the bright interior and the overall feeling of space immediately stood out to us. One of the things we’d realised from our first motorhome was that we didn’t enjoy making the bed up every day, so having a permanent island bed was a huge advantage.
A Nearly New Find
Ruby was only 10 months old when we bought her.
She had already covered around 9,000 miles, and we were told the previous owners had only bought her while waiting for another motorhome to arrive. Because of the mileage, we think she’d probably already travelled into Europe, giving her a head start on the adventures still to come.
She already had a few nice extras fitted too, including the televisions and wind deflectors, making her feel even more special.
Why We Called Her Ruby
It didn’t take us long to give our new motorhome a name.
With her beautiful red detailing and because she was already so precious to us, Ruby seemed like the perfect fit.
Since then, she’s become much more than just a motorhome.
She’s taken us across the UK and Europe, helped us discover incredible campsites, introduced us to amazing people and allowed us to create memories we’ll never forget.
The Start of Lifes4Touring
Buying Ruby didn’t just change the way we travelled.
It also inspired us to start documenting our adventures on YouTube.
What began as sharing our own experiences has grown into the Lifes4Touring community, where we share honest campsite reviews, travel inspiration, motorhome tips and the reality of life on the road.
Looking back, buying Ruby was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.
We can’t wait to see where she takes us next.
